Change With Sound

What it is
Gong baths and sound-based change facilitation can provide a unique space for immersive, evocative, and mindfully restorative experiences that are also very cathartic and freeing when it comes to emotional blocks. The training with one of London's most experienced sound healers (Theresa Royle) and experiencing the transformative powers of sound baths myself, has led me to wanting to provide this change modality as part of my portfolio, too.

This session type utilises gong sounds and sound vibrations as the main medium for change, which is why sessions take place in person only. The deep resonance of gongs and other instruments can guide our organisms into theta brainwave states - which are subtle, dream-like, and associated with hypnotic realms, 'conscious dreaming', and otherworldly forms of emotional and physical processing.

For some, the experience is soothing and calming; for others, it can evoke a sense of energetic or emotional 'purging' (even up to 48h afterwards). It can help repressed 'energies', emotions, or sensations to come to the surface.

Often, sound-based sessions also open up our subconscious worlds: archetypal imageries are unlocked just as much as deep, sudden forms of personal insight.

I mainly utilise a gong, as well as chimes, drums, or other percussion instruments. This practice has the scientifically underscored potential to switch chronic sympathetic nervous system states (associated with survival responses), into more restorative parasympathetic states (also known as the 'rest and digest' state of the autonomic nervous system). This is what makes them particularly powerful when it comes to stress release, mindfulness-based interventions, and body work.

However, every person responds differently. Sometimes sound baths are deeply restorative, at other times they are more cathartic and come with a call for rest as part of the aftermath. What they seem to offer in most cases is a direct connection between body, mind, feelings and individual sensations - a chance to experience yourself in ways that goes beyond words. Some people would argue this kind of sound immersion can also put one in touch with 'spirit', the astral plane, or other transcendental realms.

For some of us they also just offer a time to soften into sleep. Nothing more - nothing less.

Who it is for?

These sessions are well suited to people who:

  • Wish to reconnect with their bodies and explore mindfulness and meditative zones in a softer, non-verbal way.

  • Want to engage more deeply with their subconscious or dream-like worlds.

  • Feel drawn to exploring emotional or energetic release through embodied practice.

  • Value an approach that can be understood both scientifically, experientially (and spiritually), through what unfolds in the moment.

  • Appreciate a space that can hold both pragmatic exploration and, if desired, psycho-spiritual depth.

Some clients tend to book a 'Change through Symbols and Archetypes' session afterwards to reflect on the imagery or 'visions' that can come up during these sound sessions... It's like a 'debrief' in which the subconscious is made more conscious.
